The method
How it works
Distances are straight lines between city centres (as the crow flies). Roads and railways are longer, often by a quarter or more.
Clock changes use the summer time each country keeps today, for June and July 2030.
Passport checks are flagged wherever you leave or enter the Schengen area, or cross between South American countries.
Where we have a route guide for a leg, the planner links to it, with real journey times, fares and operators.

Good to know
Good
Your plan is saved in the page address. Copy the link to keep it or share it with the people you travel with.
Watch out
Match cities and dates depend on FIFA's schedule, which is not published yet. Plan the shape of the trip now, and book once the schedule is out.
Good
Spain and Portugal share the Schengen area, so there is no passport check between them.
Watch out
Carry your passport or national ID anyway: airlines and hotels still ask for it. The EU's new Entry/Exit System registers non-EU visitors at the Schengen border.
FAQ
Questions
Why is the distance shorter than my train or driving route?
The planner measures in a straight line, which is close to what a flight covers. Use it to compare legs, then check the route guide or the operator for the real journey.
Is there a ferry between Spain and Morocco?
Yes. Ferries cross the Strait of Gibraltar between southern Spain and Tangier. We are writing a route guide with operators, times and fares.
